Daylight Savings Time 2009

Daylight Savings Time will end on Sunday, November 1st at 2am.

Don't forget to change your timepieces back one hour on Halloween before you go to bed and enjoy the extra hour of sleep.

If you have any questions about how to change the time or date please contact one of our timepiece experts, or if you prefer, just stop by one of our stores and we'd be happy to help you out. Now is also a good time to remember to have your fine timepiece cleaned, fine tuned, and maintained.

Here are some of the general timing guidelines for maintenance:
  • Chronographs and more complicated movements: at least every 5 years

  • Less complicated like a standard time keeper: every 5-7 years (after 7 years the lubrication is depleted so you should really do it sooner than later)

  • If the watch is used for diving or swimming on a regular basis, then the gaskets should be changed: at least every 3 years

  • Having your watch professionally cleaned is recommended more frequently to remove dirt that builds up in the bracelet and causes stress and wear: every year

Your next must have purchase: I want to custom design my replacement wedding band. Right now I am wearing a yellow gold band with a diamond; I would like to recreate it in platinum.

I never break this fashion rule: Never wear white socks with a suit.

Best sartorial advice for men: Your timepiece says a lot about you. Plus, it is the one thing that we wear everyday that has a function, to keep us on time. You look at it on average 30 times, make sure you enjoy it.

Describe your personal style: Metropolitan Classic.

Never caught wearing: flip flops

Favorite accessory: my Breitling Mont Brilliant watch

I feel best wearing: an Armani suit

Do you shine your own shoes? Absolutely. Everyday.

Sports: Racquetball occasionally, and fishing as much as possible.

Favorite vacation spot: Maui

When I was in high school I wore: I was always freshly ironed from head to toe, although my shirt tails were almost always un-tucked. It was my look.

Welcome to Musings at Carl Greve!

We are pleased to present Carl Greve's new blog, Musings at Carl Greve. We used to have a Carl Greve magazine, ACCENT, but decided it was time to embrace our Portland "green" roots and evolve into an electronic format. So, www.carlgreve.blogspot.com was born.

This is the place to turn for frequent updates about our newest designers, collections, obsessions, events, style profiles, and well... just about all things Carl Greve.

Plus, we want to hear the stories about how Carl Greve has participated in your memorable life's events. Whether one of our engagement rings made that proposal extra special, or you surprised your Dad with one of our timepieces at his retirement party, we want to hear from you. So, please send us your stories and photos.

Tell us about the time that you gave your wife three Aaron Basha baby shoe charms when she delivered triplets in record time. Explain the incident between the garbage disposal and your wedding band that we helped you repair. Talk about the time that you went to one of our events and walked away with a new Harry Winston timepiece AND a new boat. We want to hear it all!

Please send your stories, submissions, photos, questions and comments to Musings@carlgreve.com and visit our website, www.carlgreve.com to learn more about our stores.
